A new location, over 100 sessions, all debates and accompanying events to be held in one place, and the revitalised space in the city centre, within the so-called Culture Zone – the 7th European Economic Congress (EEC) in Katowice will take place at the International Congress Center, which is currently being put in operation.
The 7th edition of the European Economic Congress in Katowice, the largest business event in Central Europe, will take place between 20–22 April 2015. The three-day conference will be attended by 6 000 guests from Poland and abroad. Over 100 sessions, accompanied by numerous meetings, debates and events, will provide a meeting space for the most prominent figures of European politics, science and business.
For the first time in the history of the Congress, not only the inauguration, but also all thematic sessions, accompanying events, banquets and meetings will take place in a single, newly opened location. Easy access, parking spaces and the vicinity of hotels are additional advantages of the new location of the European Economic Congress.
The International Congress Center (ICC) in Katowice is located in the city centre, on a revitalised post-industrial site. In place of the old “Katowice” Coal Mine, the so-called Culture Zone was created. It covers the area stretching between Korfantego and Roździeńskiego avenues, as well as between Dobrowolskiego and Olimpijska streets.
‘The International Congress Center has all the necessary assets to become an important place on the map of facilities of this type in Poland and Europe. We promote acclaimed congress and exhibition events, and the European Economic Congress is a perfect match for our strategy. It is one of the events that promote Katowice not only as a flourishing economic centre, but also as a city of business tourism,’ said Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice.
The edifice of the International Congress Center is located beside the icon of Katowice – the “Spodek” Sport and Entertainment Arena, and near another world-class facility – the new seat of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, as well as in the vicinity of the new Silesian Museum with its distinguished architectural design. The total expenditure related to investments in the Culture Zone in Katowice amounted to approx. PLN 1 billion.
‘Katowice received ultra-modern facilities that impart a metropolitan character to the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship. We, as the organisers of the largest business event in Central Europe, have been waiting for such a place to appear since the first edition of the Congress. The European Economic Congress at the International Congress Center represents a completely new standard,’ said Wojciech Kuśpik, Chairman of the Board of PTWP Group, the organiser of the EEC.
The floor space of the International Congress Center amounts to nearly 35 thousand square metres. The edifice is also directly connected with the Spodek. The major and largest hall of the ICC has a floor space of 9 thousand square metres. It can accommodate 9 thousand individuals seated or up to 12 thousand individuals standing. This year, it will serve as the central forum for the 7th European Economic Congress in Katowice. One of its parts will also hold the inaugural session of the Congress.
There will also be other areas available to the participants in the European Economic Congress in Katowice, such as the amphitheatre conference hall for 600 people, the banquet hall with a floor space of 1,200 square metres and 18 conference rooms, where thematic sessions will take place.
The form of the International Congress Center blends in with its surroundings and creates new public space. The edifice has a green passage across the roof, which assumes the form of a grassy gorge at this point. The ICC was put in operation in March 2015. The 7th European Economic Congress will be the third large-scale event organised there.
